GDNL grand final: Winning Werribee Centrals’ cup of joy

Werribee Centrals have completed a dream season, going unbeaten all the way to the Geelong and District Netball League A-grade premiership.

The Centurions were a class above the rest, but had to dodge a
bullet earlier in the finals to keep their undefeated record intact.

Grand-final day was another story, with the Centurions in cruise control in their 49-31 triumph over Bell Post Hill on Saturday.

First-year coach Lina Luta is being hailed as the mastermind.

She brought four new players into the side and strived to get the best out of each and every player under her watch.

In the grand final, the Centurions were focused on the task from
the word go, starting on the back end with Brigette Ardossi and Noni
McClure making a number of telling early interceptions.

If Bell Post Hill thought it had it tough trying to negotiate a
watertight defence, it had an even bigger headache at the other end of
the court with Centurions goalers Mickayla Ward (31 goals) and Eleanor
Tubbs (18) in rich form.

Amanda Wilson and Hailey Sildatke offered fresh legs for Centrals
when the starters tired and there was simply no respite for the hapless
Bell Post Hill.

In C grade, the Centurions won a nail-biter 35-32 over Bell Post
Hill, with league best and fairest Clarissa Melili scoring 21 goals.

In D grade, the Centurions got the better of Inverleigh in a 33-23
victory, with league champion player Chanelle Pecora on board.
