American-born shooter Lauryn Mark has lived in Australia for 13 years and loves the Wyndham community.
What’s your favourite place to get a coffee and a bite to eat?
My husband Russell co-owns Hotel 520 which is within walking distance of our house, so I like to go there and have a drink and a meal.
What’s your neighbourhood retreat spot?
Werribee Plaza for some shopping therapy. The kids dictate a lot of my schedule, so between driving them around and my own work and training, I don’t get a lot of down time. I do like to go for a roller blade along the Hoppers Crossing bike paths.
What would you change in your neighbourhood?
Road infrastructure. Everyone has found out about our little secret here and the roads are struggling to keep up.
What would you never change?
Russ and I really like the culture here, everyone treats people equally and there is a very good work/life balance. I would love to see the culture stay the same and for the community to maintain its small town feel even though it’s growing.
Where do you go to snag a clothes bargain?
I do a large proportion of my shopping at the plaza. There is talk of expanding it but I love it how it is. The main street in Werribee is also getting some unique shops as well.
Funniest story while out and about?
When I first came to Australia I was on a sporting visa, so I couldn’t do anything but shoot for six months. It left me with a lot of spare time, so Russell asked me to post some letters. As I walked out the front door wondering why he couldn’t post the letters himself, I “posted” them in our letterbox out the front. A few days later Russell said ‘‘all those letters I asked you to post have been returned’’. In America, they come and pick up your letters as well as give them to you.
