My Wyndham: Angela Whiffin, Altona Meadows

President of the Friends of Skeleton Creek, Altona Meadows resident Angela Whiffin reminds her neighbours about the importance of their natural surrounds.

What’s your favourite place to grab a coffee and a bite to eat?

I don’t often eat out or go for coffee, but on the odd occasion I enjoy heading to a cafe in Sanctuary Lakes.

What’s your favourite neighbourhood retreat?

It probably won’t surprise you to hear me say that it’s Skeleton
Creek. There’s just so much nice flora and fauna down there and it’s a
fantastic spot.

What would you like to see changed in your neighbourhood?

We live near the entrance to Point Cook Road and the traffic can
be chaos at times. When we first moved into the area we were surrounded
by farmland and they’ve never replaced the farm roads that are now far
too narrow for traffic.

What wouldn’t you change?

The one characteristic I hope this area retains forever is the
open space we have remaining. Despite a lot of development in the area,
we still have some paddocks and beautiful grasslands here.

Funny story while out and about?

Down at Skeleton Creek conducting an information session in a
marquee, I wandered down to the creek bank to get something and remember
spinning around quickly enough to see our marquee blown halfway up the
river.

Where do you go to snag a clothes bargain?

I’m a massive fan of op shops. I go there to buy anything from knitwear to books.
