Former prime minister and outgoing Lalor MP Julia Gillard toured
the electorate she served for 15 years last Wednesday before being
farewelled by community leaders at a Wyndham Civic Centre reception.
Flanked by ALP candidate Joanne Ryan, Ms Gillard inspected the
progress of a new GP super clinic in Wyndham Vale, due to be completed
by December.
“This clinic will unite general practitioners, visiting medical
specialists and other healthcare professionals to deliver the services
that are a priority for this community,” Ms Gillard said.
Next stop was the new Mambourin café in Hoppers Crossing, where
Mambourin Enterprises runs a community service for adults with
intellectual disabilities.
Staff served the first cups of tea and coffee to the former PM.
Mambourin chief executive Rohan Braddy said the new café had been eagerly awaited by the group’s clients with disabilities, including those who were building on their barista and hospitality skills.
