The man who murdered Sarah Cafferkey and dumped her body in Point Cook will remain in prison for life.
Supreme Court Justice Kevin Bell said Steven James Hunter, 47, who
has now murdered two women, did not deserve to ever be released back
into the community after pleading guilty to “this most heinous crime”.
Sentencing Hunter to life imprisonment with no parole, Justice
Bell said Hunter’s prospects for rehabilitation were poor and he would
always remain a risk to the community.
Hunter had repeatedly stabbed 22-year-old Ms Cafferkey after an
argument at his Bacchus Marsh apartment. He later put her body in the
boot of his car and drove to a house in Point Cook where he placed it in
a wheelie bin.
