WRFL div 1: Spotswood thrashes Kangaroos in qualifying final

SPOTSWOOD has sent a loud and clear message to the rest of the
competition that it means business in the Western Region Football League
division 1 finals.

The Woodsmen, hellbent on atoning for last year’s one-point loss
to Altona Vikings in the grand final, got off to a finals flyer with an
88-point annihilation of Sunshine Kangaroos in the qualifying final at
Chirnside Park on Saturday.

The match was done and dusted by half-time, with the Woodsmen leading 64-7.

The day never improved for Kangaroos coach Brett Jacobs, who described it as the “worst effort” of the season from his players.

The Woodsmen were superbly led by Elliott Wood, Murray Boyd and player-coach Chris O’Keefe.

Jason Cloke was inspiring with six goals, while Boyd added four.

The Woodsmen get the chance to grab a direct passage to the grand
final when they meet Deer Park in the second semi-final at Chirnside
Park on Saturday.

The Kangaroos will have to lick their wounds and front up against the defending champion Altona on Sunday.

The Vikings coolly disposed of St Albans in the elimination final.
