■ One day, Dr Napthine may need an ambulance.  Eventually, everyone does.

■ Look after our paramedics – they deserve the best equipment and to be paid more than pollies.

■ Perhaps we should dub Dr Napthine the runaway premier.

■ Didn’t the ambos get enough of a good run with the 11 years under Labor? Oh wait, that’s why the rest of Victoria kicked Brumby and Co out – they couldn’t manage the finances.

Re: Federal election (Weekly, August 7):

■ As usual, welfare recipients are being totally ignored in the election campaign. No matter who gets elected, life’s just going to get even more difficult for Australia’s poorest families. This country’s got blinkers on when it comes to poverty. Look at the devastation that welfare ‘reforms’ are causing in the UK – that just might happen here, too, if Abbott gets in.

Re: Werribee traffic chaos after train derailing (Weekly online):

■ This is the second time this has happened in a month. Getting stuck for four hours at a railway crossing in the centre of Werribee is ridiculous. It’s time for the second underpass that was promised way back when the first was started. The pedestrian lights on either side of the crossing have made this intersection a huge bottleneck for all.
