Avalon, peninsula ferry service talks

A FERRY service could be running between Avalon Airport and Melbourne’s southern suburbs within the next few years.

Lyons Capital, the company behind Werribee South’s Wyndham Harbour development, is in talks with Avalon Airport about a ferry service from the Mornington Peninsula to Avalon.

Lyons is already working with the state government to develop a ferry from Werribee South to the city.

Spokesman Greg Miller said planning for an Avalon ferry was in the preliminary stages, but it could be part of a wider network of ferry services.  It would need state government approval.

Mr Miller said Lyons was confident people would catch a ferry to Avalon because it would be an attractive alternative to Melbourne’s congested roads.

“Increasing access to an airport via Port Phillip Bay becomes an obvious choice for those people living in the southern suburbs.”
