Federal election: Coalition’s $6m greening pledge

REVEGETATING the banks of the Werribee River and increasing canopy cover in Melbourne’s western suburbs will be key “green army” projects if the federal Coalition wins government next month.

Touring Werribee on Tuesday, opposition climate spokesman Greg Hunt pledged $6 million to a ‘Greening the West’ program, part of a Coalition policy to plant 20 million trees.

Mr Hunt said a “green army” of 15,000 young people to tackle environmental projects would be a cornerstone of a Coalition government’s climate policy.
