WERRIBEE should be included in a different upper house region to the rest of Wyndham, according to a Liberal Party submission on proposed electoral boundary changes.
The Liberals want the new Werribee electorate – which would take in Werribee, Wyndham Vale, Werribee South and Little River – included in the Western Victoria region instead of the Western Metropolitan region as proposed by the Electoral Boundaries Commission.
Releasing its proposed boundaries in June, the commission flagged its intention to remove the seat of Yuroke from Western Metropolitan region to make way for new seats in Sunbury and Werribee.
Parts of Werribee and Wyndham Vale are currently in the Lara electorate and are part of the Western Victoria region, which includes Geelong and Ballarat.
The rest of Wyndham is part of the Western Metropolitan region.
The commission believes the entire municipality should be located in one region.
In its submission, the Liberal Party said that adding the Werribee electorate to Western Victoria would result in “minimal change” to existing upper house boundaries.
Western Metropolitan Liberal MP Andrew Elsbury, who recently moved his office from Keilor to Werribee, said it was too early to comment on the impact the proposed changes would have on Wyndham.
However, he said the upper house boundaries could change significantly with the removal of just one lower house seat.
The EBC will reveal the final boundaries in October.
