THREE months ago, Denise Morris had such severe back pain that she could barely think about spending a few minutes on her exercise bike.
But after taking part in a regular Heart Foundation fitness class for seniors, the Wyndham Vale retiree is riding 10 kilometres a day.
Ms Morris was initially hesitant about taking part in the classes, designed to help seniors with underlying medical conditions stay active.
“[But] since joining the class my energy levels have certainly increased. I definitely feel fitter and more inclined to do things and get active.”
The Heartmoves classes are part of the federal government’s Healthy Communities Initiative, which aims to improve the health, fitness and general well-being of Wyndham residents. The municipality has nine specially-trained instructors who run six classes.
