Re: Wyndham Harbour: Expanded marina boosts ferry bid (Weekly, July 24):
I think it is good news for people of Wyndham. I am glad that we will see ferry rides in the west. The infrastructure is very poor in Wyndham and the state government needs to fix it.

Re: ‘Nightmare’ Hoppers development gets VCAT nod (Weekly, July 24):
Planning in Victoria has become a system that allows developers to build whatever they want, where- ever they want. It’s a free-for-all allowing anything, with the support of our state government. We may as well concede that this government is a real estate company. Any other considerations such as downstream costs for infrastructure and living standards are left until after the next election.

Re: Fund our plans: Wyndham council poll pitch (Weekly, July 24):
The Growth Areas Alliance should be lobbying for a limit to our growth – and address whatever is causing the dystopia of deprivation, crime and poverty.
While the immigration focus remains on asylum seekers, the masses are entering Australia via our temporary and permanent immigration program, which is ignored by the media and unmentionable.
There simply aren’t the facilities for refugees as there were up to the 1970s. We don’t have affordable jobs or public housing.
Demanding funding will have limited results as Australia, and
our state continues to slides into the red.

The infrastructure priority is for trucks, supply chains and the demands of big businesses, especially with regards to the east-west link that will cost up to $10 billion. People in the outer suburbs are crying out for basics, but they’re being treated as second or third priorities. Our governments worship “growth” as a measure of their success, but when it comes to costing they always defer to the whims of big businesses and corporations. With Wyndham’s recent cap on building approvals, at least it’s setting a precedent on growth that other fringe councils, hopefully, will follow.
