Your Voice: The Weekly, July 4-10

Re: Julia Gillard: ‘We can win election’ (Weekly online):

Yes, but she also believed that Labor would have won the election with her in charge.

Re: Julia Gillard: After kerfuffle, ‘big shoes to fill’ (Weekly, July 2):

We love Julia and are appreciative of everything she has done for the community.

Toni

Julia Gillard did an amazing job given the difficulties placed before her every step of the way. The lack of respect shown to her as prime minister was appalling. She remained dignified in the toughest circumstances right to the end.

Cee Mee

Thank you, Ms Gillard, for all of your achievements on our behalf. I didn’t agree with everything you did but you haven’t received due credit for the National Disability Insurance Scheme, National Broadband Network, Gonski, paid parental leave, the schoolkids’ bonus and much more.

Deb

I’m a westie and proud that we have had you serving our local community. So sad to see you leaving.

Heather

Julia Gillard has been a great local member and an historic achiever despite the reprehensible attempts to bring her undone. However, her referencing of the 1990s toxic dump campaign as a singular memory is a bit depressing. Some Wyndham councillors like to express similar views. However, the toxic dump site is now a disfiguring, smelly waste mountain that council seems to think is a great project that should continue to grow. So the question is, do council and Ms Gillard actually give a fig about community concerns, or have they just learnt to trade on modest involvement in history and turn a deaf ear to current concerns?

Re: Single parents to lobby for backflip (Weekly, July 2):

It is so frustrating when you only hear about those single parents on Newstart since the beginning of this year. If they do nothing about those single parents who were on Newstart before January 1, it will be plain discrimination.

John Faulkner

Re: Planning minister slams Wyndham plan to cap residential growth (Weekly, July 2):

Victoria is already heavily in debt for infrastructure, and our state government keeps demanding more federal funding. Nothing can grow forever. Matthew Guy keeps talking about providing infrastructure, but it costs money and city building is expensive.
