A great representative for our community.  Thank you for everything you have done, Julia.

We’re really happy to see her go . . . she didn’t do anything for the Point Cook community.

There is also no law stopping anyone from tipping off nonexistent booze buses and patrols.

Re: Wyndham to scale down housing construction (Weekly, June 26):

Finally, we have a council willing to take a stance against limitless population growth! Councils are at the coalface of government growth policies and are meant to keep their budgets running and services growing accordingly. Why should our state end up knee-deep in debt for infrastructure and increasing costs of living while governments keep increasing the population – largely via immigration levels. A state budget heavily reliant on real estate revenue ultimately will be bogged down by costs, growing congestion and public discontent.

It seems councillors are cowards as none of them vote to stop growth to catch up with the backlog of infrastructure issues. A single  year of halted growth would help.

Plan it right (via web)

I hope council sticks to its guns.

I am all for the growth of Wyndham, but the growth needs to be stemmed. Wyndham can no longer sustain the growth it has seen as the fastest-growing city in Australia. I urge the council to cap growth even if the State Government promises to spend money on infrastructure. Wyndham needs time for the infrastructure to catch up before it spirals out of control. I continually see developments across the city that are throwing up houses at a tremendous rate yet surrounding roads and infrastructure fail to meet the demands of an ever-increasing population. Proposed land releases in Wyndham Vale, Point Cook, Tarneit and Truganina will cripple our roads and services. I urge anyone who feels this way to contact their councillors and MPs and express support for capping growth to more sustainable levels.

East-west link advice ignored, west the loser (Weekly, June 19):

I think a class action is in order for lost time, wages, fuel, efficiencies, tolls, a loss of business and vehicle wear and tear by all commuters due to a lack of infrastructure.

End racism now, people

Troubling reports exposing racism show it’s time to find a solution.

Every racist incident is serious, no matter how insignificant it seems. Our research shows the more racism people experience, the more likely they are to suffer psychological distress, which can lead to other problems.

Of the 600 people in regional, rural and metro Victoria we surveyed, 83 per cent wanted more to be done about racism. One in three pledged to take action if they saw it.

It is important that we all act. You can support the victim, film the incident, report it to police, challenge attitudes when someone is telling a racist joke, or reassure the target that most Victorians don’t stand for this.
