LABOR may have changed its leader but infighting will continue to destabilise the party, according to Liberal Lalor candidate Nihal Samara.
The Altona Meadows resident hit Werribee’s Watton Street last Thursday to talk to locals about Julia Gillard’s retirement from politics and their thoughts on the future of the seat.
Mr Samara told the Weekly many people he had spoken to believed instability rocking the government had become a major concern.
“The issue we have is that Labor are still focused on managing their own jobs and looking after themselves, which they continue to do, and continue to ignore the needs of Lalor.”
Mr Samara believed people were “frustrated with the Labor brand”.
The Greens’ Lalor candidate, Beck Sheffield-Brotherton, said she was surprised that Ms Gillard was dumped.
However, Ms Sheffield-Brotherton was hopeful Ms Gillard’s resignation would increase her own primary vote.
