WERRIBEE Centrals gave the champions of old a past players day to savour with a 49-point thrashing of Winchelsea in the Geelong and District Football League Smiths Holden Cup match-of-the-round at Galvin Park on Saturday.
The result had plenty riding on it for both sides with the third-placed Centurions desperately wanting to keep pace with the top two sides, while Winchelsea was keen to close the gap between the two.
The Centurions were switched on from the outset, booting the first three goals of the game to the delight of vocal fans.
David Hall and Phil Jones were prominent up forward, while Steven Morgan and Michael Cassidy controlled proceedings from the middle of the park.
The Centurions defence held firm, keeping the visitors to just nine goals.. Luke Cachia was the most damaging forward on the ground, kicking six majors for the Centurions.
The Centurions have a break before a trip to Bannockburn on June 29.
