A MONSTROUS second half from Werribee meant that the Tigers ran away with a 92-point win over VFL cellar-dweller Bendigo Gold on Saturday.
Werribee led by only 13 points at half-time but restricted the Gold to a solitary goal in the second half as it piled on 14 of its own for a fourth straight victory.
The win has the Tigers sitting seventh with six wins and four losses, just two points behind fourth-ranked Port Melbourne.
Bendigo, which broke ranks with Essendon during the off-season, has mostly provided opposition teams with a chance to boost their percentage in 2013. But after a much-improved showing against Coburg, Bendigo was well in touch in the first half. Both teams managed only two goals in the second quarter, but again the Tigers were inaccurate, kicking 2.5 for the term.
It’s hard to hold a good side down for too long though, and Werribee broke the game open in the third quarter with six goals to one. By the time the third quarter siren sounded, the Tigers were 46 points ahead and the game was well and truly over.
A massive final term, in which Werribee kicked eight goals to four behinds, put the margin within reach of 100 points. The Tigers ran out of time to get to that mark.
Ben McKinley and Ben Warren both kicked four goals for the Tigers, with Jarred Moore, Jordan Gysberts and Ben Ross the shining lights.
Levi Greenwood was among the best for the fifth game in a row, boosting his chance of a North Melbourne recall.
Big man Dan Currie, returning from injury, was impressive.
