Charity help full to the brim

NOLA Cordell has seen the difference money raised for the Cancer Council can make.

The Hoppers Crossing resident has been in remission from breast cancer for five years and watched her brother and son-in-law battle and beat cancer.

She also watched on as her mum, dad and husband died of the disease.

So when the Cancer Council started promoting its Biggest Morning Tea, Mrs Cordell decided she had to host her own event.

“I know the money goes to a good cause. When I was diagnosed, I saw all the equipment and wondered who paid for it all,” she said.

“[Researchers] are coming up with new treatments all the time. They are making discoveries every day, so I wanted to do what I could to help out. Hosting a tea is a simple thing to do and a way to help fund a good cause.”

She’s inviting friends and family to a ‘Mad Hatter’s’ tea party on May 25, with everyone who attends asked to donate money to the Cancer Council.

“It is a battle against time for many. One of my friends was told by her specialist if they could see her through another five years, he was confident that there would be further advancements made to benefit her. To me, that is the reason to raise funds now.”
