More car parking unwelcome
Unlike others, I’ve been groaning at seeing the excessive number of car spaces at the new Williams Landing station. Why do we need any, except for people with disabilities? It’s much cheaper, healthier and environmentally sustainable for people to walk or ride to the station. Fortunately planners have provided good pedestrian and cycling facilities. So instead of whining about lack of space, the addicted petrol heads need to do themselves and the rest of us a favour and walk or ride. Or catch the bus. And if you really must drive, car pool!

Thanks for making event a success
On behalf of Cancer Council Victoria, I congratulate and thank those who helped make the Wyndham Relay For Life a success. In April, more than 2400 residents came together in the overnight relay-style event to celebrate cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost and encourage the community to fight back against cancer. This year, Wyndham participants are expecting to raise $250,000 which will support Cancer Council Victoria’s research and prevention programs.
I would like to thank each of the volunteer committee members, led by chairmanager Anne Marie Dey, for volunteering their time and energy to ensure the event’s success. We would not be able to make such great inroads without the dedication, commitment and support of our donors and volunteers. Todd Harper, Cancer Council Victoria CEO
Re: Williams Landing: Finally, movement at the station (Weekly, May 1)
Not all the roads to the station are finished and there is no footpath linking directly from Palmers Road to the station. The only finished footpath goes behind the Masters construction site, which means you have to add another five minutes to your walk to the station. The station itself is great, although the bare concrete in main tunnel section with the ticket office seems quite stark and unfinished.

Re: State budget: Plea to upgrade roads and improve bus services (Weekly, May 1): Don’t be surprised if the government again ignores Wyndham’s cries for help in regards to road upgrades and the removal of level crossings. I’m not expecting Wyndham to receive funding for any of that, because the west just doesn’t matter as much as the east/south-east.
