Wetland wandering at Skeleton Creek

WYNDHAM residents are being urged to discover the natural beauty of Skeleton Creek at a free community information day.

Sunday’s event has been organised by the Friends of Skeleton Creek and the council in response to queries about the creek and nearby waterholes.

Cr Bob Fairclough said residents often asked if plants and animals discovered in the area were native or exotic.

“Sanctuary Lakes is on the doorstep of Point Cook Coastal Park and Cheetham Wetlands, two areas internationally recognised for their abundant bird life with sightings of more than 200 species, some of which are on the endangered list. However, if we want these precious areas to continue to thrive, we must look after the Skeleton Creek corridor.”

The event is at the corner of Monterey Bay Drive and Lighthouse Point Close, Sanctuary Lakes, 10.30am-1.30pm.
