Man charged with child grooming

A Werribee man, 51, will face court this week charged with child grooming offences following an investigation by Taskforce Astraea and the South Australia internet child exploitation team. Police said they searched the man’s house and seized computer equipment after discovering he was communicating online with a child under 16 and had arranged to meet up for sexual purposes. He has been bailed to appear at Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday.

Flights from Avalon to Philippines

Wyndham residents will soon be able to fly from Avalon Airport to the Philippines. Federal Infrastructure and Transport Minister Anthony Albanese said the Australian and Philippines governments had signed a memorandum of understanding to operate a daily service between Avalon and the Philippines. Mr Albanese said the agreement was a huge win for trade and tourism in the region.

Student earns young achiever title

Point Cook’s Kimberley Pellosis has been named Wyndham’s young achiever of the year. Ms Pellosis, 19, was recognised for her passion for science and the environment during a ceremony at the Youth Resource Centre on April 11. The bachelor of science student has dedicated herself to many causes including as a researcher with Earthwatch Australia and a mentor for the Science Experience, a hands-on program for secondary school students.

PM to welcome Wyndham babies

Prime Minister Julia Gillard is inviting Wyndham families to the annual ‘Welcoming the Babies’ ceremony next month. The Lalor MP (pictured) said the event acknowledged the hard work involved in raising a family and put parents in touch with support services.
