YOU could be forgiven for thinking you’d gone back in time at the Tigers Clubhouse this weekend, with three ’80s idols set to take to the stage.
Uncanny X-Men front man Brian Mannix, Real Life’s David Sterry and Kids in the Kitchen’s Scott Carne will bring their reunion show, Absolutely 80s to the Hoppers Crossing club on Saturday night.
The trio will perform their biggest hits with the backing of an all-star band including members from Big Pig, the Black Sorrows and Extreme.
Mannix says the show is proof the ’80s are alive and kicking.
“The show is the best of our bands all in one night. It is a chance for the audience to reminisce about the ’80s.
“We were part of their lives when they were younger. Our music was on when they were at Blue Light Discos.”
While audiences can expect to “laugh at old songs”, Mannix says for him the show is about doing what he loves.
“Playing in a band is where it all started for me. I love doing it and I haven’t really stopped. I would rather be on stage.”
He says while music has changed since the ’80s, it doesn’t mean today’s music is worse.
“There was a lot of rubbish music in the ’80s but there was also a lot of good music as well.
“Nobody plays the guitar as much any more and you see a lot less of the band and drummer.
“These days, it’s all about the dancers and the melody is not as important but it is like any art – there is no right or wrong.”
Absolutely 80s is at the Tigers Clubhouse from 9.30pm this Saturday. Tickets: $30. Details: 9974 6900.
