Re: Asylum surge stretches services (Weekly, April 3):

Yes, asylum seekers should not be allowed to work for at least five years. If they are allowed then it means we are welcoming them and giving them motivation to get on boats. Governments should even stop giving any benefits to them.

Hard Working Aussie

Sure Hard Working Aussie, how do you suggest they live then? What would you do to live if you had no right to work, no government benefits? Why don’t you enlighten us all? Hard Working Aussie x2

The federal government encourages asylum seekers to come to our shores, then forbids them from getting a job! How are they supposed to support themselves and their families? The opposition from the trade union movement to section 457 visas is racism in its worst form. Tony A

Re: Wyndham takes $45 million plunge with huge waterslides (Weekly, April 3)

Complete joke . . .surely. Or has the tooth fairy fixed our traffic issues while I was sleeping?

Jacki

A fancy multimillion-dollar centre is a stupid waste of ratepayers’ money. Get back to basics and bring back smaller, better managed local swimming pools in each area. Miriam

This looks amazing and it also looks like it would bring in a lot of tourists. But is this redevelopment particularly necessary? Suburbs like Tarneit, Truganina and Point Cook have such massive populations and they could do with something like this out their way, or at least build some swimming pools for them.
