Hot off the catwalk

MORE than 80 young indigenous fashion designers and models graced the catwalk at the Melbourne Fashion Festival last weekend.

Led by Point Cook indigenous photographer Wayne Quilliam, Maori artists and social workers, the project brought models like Dream-May Langley (pictured) from as far afield as Broome and Auckland to strut the festival’s ‘indigenous runway’ event on Saturday.

Mr Quilliam said the event was designed to have indigenous people consider the fashion industry as a career choice.

“Personally and professionally this experience has been so rewarding. As an Aboriginal man, it reinforces my belief that sharing knowledge into a collective strengthens culture, as a business person that strives for excellence, this experience ensures the journey is as important as the destination.”
