Funds to honour sacrifices

Community groups are being urged to apply for funding to help them commemorate the Anzac centenary. Prime Minister and Lalor MP Julia Gillard said the federal government’s Anzac local grants program would provide communities with $100,000 to honour Australia’s World War I servicemen and women. “I encourage community groups, ex-service organisations and local schools who are interested in commemorating this special event to begin planning now. Projects could include public commemoration events, the creation or restoration of First World War memorials or school projects.”
