A WYNDHAM disability support group is hoping local golfers will tee up at Sanctuary Lakes next month to help fund vital services.
Now in it’s seventh year, the annual charity golf day raises money to help Mambourin teach its clients life skills and find them worthwhile employment. The event is on March 15 from 11.45am.
Money raised last year was used to buy a truck for Mambourin’s gardening team, which is now employed by Sanctuary Lakes Resort for gardening and grounds maintenance.
Sanctuary Lakes members John and Jeannie Borbridge, who have helped raise $100,000 for Mambourin, said it was nice to see golfers supporting a local charity.
“The Mambourin workers are part of the family now here at Sanctuary Lakes,” Mr Borbridge said. “Many used to not speak very much but they’ve come out of their shells and now their heads are held high.”
Mr Borbridge said a member of the Mambourin gardening team recently became a permanent employee at Sanctuary Lakes, after maintaining the grounds for a couple of years through the disability service.
He said being able to help Mambourin clients gain new skills was just one of the benefits from the golf day.
