Wyndham growth: Youngsters have answers

WYNDHAM’S next generation has spoken out about the city’s growth problems, calling for more hospitals, buses and better roads.

Children from The Grange Community Centre were asked how Wyndham could be improved as part of the interface councils’ One Melbourne or Two? report.

Representatives from the buffer councils group visited the centre during the summer holidays to film the children offering the state government some advice.

Top of seven-year-old Chloe’s wishlist was more hospitals and buses, and jobs closer to home.

She said the municipality’s congested roads meant her family had to get up “earlier and earlier” to get to school and work on time.

Tyson, 11, also thought that roads could be improved, suggesting the government turn Derrimut Road into a highway to ease congestion.

A fast rail or tram from Werribee to the city would also help reduce traffic, he said.

Tyson called on the government to redesign Hoppers Crossing train station to make it easier for people to access.

Tahila, 10, said she would like to see more parks with playgrounds where she could play with her younger cousins.
