Werribee man stabbed in St Albans

Detectives are seeking witnesses to a stabbing in St Albans. A Werribee man, 28, was walking with his bike along Alfrieda Street at 1.40pm last Tuesday when he became involved in a verbal altercation with a man and a woman. The man produced a knife and stabbed the victim to the upper body, causing serious internal injuries. The victim was rushed to the Royal Melbourne Hospital for emergency surgery and was in a stable condition. Police said the attacker was of Caucasian appearance and in his late 40s.

E-waste disposal free of charge

Disposing of unwanted electrical goods, such as computers and TVs, will be made easier for Wyndham residents after the council joined forces with TechCollect to create a free e-waste drop-off point. The service is available at the Refuse Disposal Facility, Wests Road, Werribee from 8am-4pm weekdays and 8.30am-4pm on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. Details: 1300 229 837.

School finds new way with words

Students at Werribee Secondary College will get the chance to learn Chinese from a native speaker. The school was one of 68 schools chosen to host a languages assistant as part of a new state government program.

Dog, cat trackers cheap as chips

Cat and dog owners registering their pet for the first time have until April 10 to receive a registration discount for microchipping their animal. A new fee schedule for pet registration comes into force across Victoria on April 11, meaning dog and cat owners will no longer receive a registration discount on microchipping. Owners of pets under three months who register their animals before April 11 will be entitled to a reduced fee for the life of the animal.

Grant to boost business’ productivity

A Laverton North business has been given a state grant to help boost its productivity and become more internationally competitive. Tollman, which supplies speciality chemicals and additives to the agriculture, mining, building, paper, personal care and industrial sectors, received $7500 under the government’s Grow Your Business scheme.
