Fitting response over development

VICTORIA University has come to the rescue of group fitness participants whose classes have been cancelled for 18 months while a Hoppers Crossing gym is redeveloped.

As reported by the Weekly, group fitness studios will close at the Wyndham Leisure and Events Centre while it undergoes a multimillion-dollar expansion.

A temporary gym with exercise machines, weights, a boxing area and change rooms is being built ahead of the redevelopment, but Wyndham Council was unable to accommodate group classes.

Margaret Polh, Tom Parol and Carolyn Greenhough (pictured) were among more than 700 people to sign a petition calling on the council to relocate classes during the redevelopment.

The council said classes could not be relocated and advised members to find alternative providers. VU has since agreed to run the classes, offering affected patrons a 100-day membership for $100.

Classes are at Werribee Health and Fitness Centre, Hoppers Lane, Werribee. Details: 9919 8173.
