Re: Factories make hay while sun shines (Weekly, January 30):
The massive carbon tax is going to send businesses (and workers) out of work. The fact that the current federal government has to give taxpayer money to companies as a small amount of compensation for this ridiculous tax just proves how economically ignorant they are. Roll on the next election!

Good on you, Julia, the carbon price is doing its job, providing grants for these businesses and cutting pollution. Tony Abbott would just take it all away and do nothing about fixing climate change.

Re: Rubber-burning hoons mystify (Weekly, January 30):
I congratulate Victoria Police Assistant Commissioner Robert Hill for making it a priority to visit Wyndham first hand to see the problems we experience with hoon driving. Wyndham has one of the highest impoundments in Victoria.
Hoon driving is totally unacceptable and dangerous past-time putting Wyndham residents at risk. Increased police presence will assist with curtailing hoons, however it is the community who need to take ownership and say NO to such behaviour if we are going to make inroads into this appalling behaviour. I’m sure many residents will know where they live, but refrain from getting involved. I can only say one day that same hoon you know may kill an innocent person.
Call Crime Stoppers on 1300 333 000 and have no hesitation.

24/7 they use the Heaths -Tarneit roads roundabout as a race track. They must hit well over the 100km/h before you hear the engine die down. No one’s accountable.

Punched, robbed: Tourist ‘left for dead’ at Werribee station (Weekly, January 30):
Here we have a young man from overseas who wants to experience life in Australia, and then gets assaulted by a group of low-life thugs after only a week in this country. I hope these sick thugs get the punishment they deserve.

Point Cook school’s in, and so are builders (Weekly, January 30):
What the heck is up with all these P-9 schools popping up everywhere these days? What are students of Wyndham going to do when they reach year 10-12? Travel to other municipalities to do their VCE? Why aren’t we building P-12 schools or ordinary high schools for year 7-12 students?
