Urban planning lacks foresight

When will it end, this mad building frenzy in the west? High density housing developments are devoid of supporting infrastructure and basic services. Estates with narrow roads and no links to major traffic arteries are causing traffic chaos. Link this to railway crossings at major arterials and we have a recipe for disaster.

Unless some serious thought is put into urban planning, we won’t be able to back out of our driveway in years to come let alone access the freeway(s), railway stations or get to shopping venues. Many of the new estates lack adequate public transport and the west’s train system is at near capacity. A frightening vision of our future due to a lack of insight?

Bill Hutton, Werribee South

Re: Werribee South snakes force Australia Day changes (Weekly, January 16): The mention of snakes is really a smokescreen to hide the fact that the council wants to have more direct control over numbers. If they do it again next year they will be charging an entry at the gate to the athletics track!

Not fooling us

Re: Thousands demand action on Laverton knackery (Weekly, January 16): Should have been closed years ago. There’s been so many reports to RSPCA and DPI but nothing has ever been done. Now we may see something happening because of the social media and other media. The group that filmed it had the guts to make it public!
