IF Saturday’s match-winning 81 is any indication, Seabrook import Tom Carr might have just figured out how to bat on Australian pitches.
Perhaps it was his new-found role as Saints opener that aided the Englishman in his quest for a first half century in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association west B1.
”Earlier in the season, he was hesitant to play his shots,” Saints player-coach Daniel Kilfoy told the Weekly.
”He found the middle of the bat and looked a lot more confident.”

That Carr’s change in fortune came in the opener’s role was a tad surprising.
The 19-year-old Liverpudlian has played the bulk of his short career in the upper to middle order, but rarely opened.
He relished the chance to face up to the new ball.
”I’ve found the pitches here to be quite slow,” Carr said.
”Not being used to the pace of the ball, I’ve been playing my shots and getting caught. It’s been frustrating giving my wicket away.
”I really enjoyed the pace of the ball coming on to the bat when I opened.”
Carr produced the perfect one-day knock.
He pushed the ones and twos early before unleashing once he got his eye in.
”It felt good to get some runs on the board in a great win for the team,” he said.
