Teen charged over Wyndham schoolyard stabbing

A TEENAGER has been charged after an alleged stabbing at a Wyndham school.

The incident took place in the schoolyard about 1.20pm last Thursday.

It is alleged the boy, 15, stabbed another boy, 14, in the arm with a pocketknife.

The 14-year-old was taken to Werribee Mercy Hospital with a superficial injury and was released that evening.

Police charged the 15-year-old on Friday with recklessly causing serious injury.

He has been bailed to appear at a children’s court at a later date.

The principal of the school said the stabbing was an isolated incident. “It was obviously a one-off incident for us.

“In the 12 years I’ve been a principal and class teacher I haven’t had to deal with this type of incident.

“We are not happy it happened but it was swiftly dealt with. This is not a reflection of our community.”

The 15-year-old was suspended by the school. Counselling was offered to students who witnessed the incident and teachers spoke to senior students about appropriate behaviour at school.

The principal said parents were notified of the incident via email on Thursday night and a letter was sent home with students on Friday.
