SENIOR members of Wyndham’s Indian community have learnt where they can go to get help.
Elders from the city’s Sikh temple visited civic and legal services around Wyndham last week to learn how they operate.
The tour was organised by multicultural liaison officer Leading Senior Constable Richard Dove (pictured). Elders were given access to the police station, where they viewed the cells and watchhouse and Werribee Magistrates Court.
They also met with mayor Heather Marcus, deputy mayor Marie Brittan and Acting Inspector Damien Christensen, lawyers from Wyndham Community Legal Service and Tarneit MP Tim Pallas.
Leading Senior Constable Dove said many participants did not know they could ask for help at many of the services.
“In India, you don’t ask governments, police or lawyers for help unless it is a life or death situation because sometimes it can make the problem worse.”
