IT will be an uncomfortable Christmas for Werribee unless it can arrest its form slump in the Bowls Victoria premier division.
The out-of-sorts Bees are suddenly in danger of sliding into the relegation zone before the new year.
The promising start to the season was nothing but a distant memory as the Bees were hammered on the road by bottom of the ladder Lalor on Saturday.
Bees skip Snowy Barker told the Weekly it was arguably his club’s poorest performance of the summer.
“It was a disappointing day all round,” he said. “It was probably our worst performance of the year.
“They are below us on the ladder, but they played better as a 16 than we did.”
The Bees failed to earn a single point and were swept aside four rinks to nil.
The margins were close in three of the four rinks, but Lalor made the big shots when it mattered.
Mick O’Neil’s rink was the tightest of the lot, beaten narrowly 21-19. Barker held a late advantage before losing 19-16.
Darren Christie was edged 23-19 in a tight battle.
Ben Major, the Bees most damaging rink in the first half of the season, was outplayed 26-14.
The Bees are missing the spark that saw them win two of their first four games. They have won just one of their past five.
“It’s a confidence thing,” Barker said.
The Bees hit the highway on Saturday for a clash with Bundoora, one of the sides they have already beaten this season.
