Re: Wyndham’s obesity problems

The launch of a ‘preventative community model’ (www.wyndhamweekly.com.au/story/1148776/battle-of-bulge-takes-new-twist/?cs=27) is fine in theory, and it’s great that our federal and state governments are providing funding to address Wyndham’s obesity crisis. However, opportunities to exercise in the municipality are becoming increasingly limited.

The redevelopment of the Wyndham Leisure and Events Centre means that group exercise classes are at risk of being suspended for 18 months or more. Perhaps the council should use some of these funds to find an alternate venue so that these classes may continue – the physical and mental health of hundreds of residents depends on this.

Re: East Werribee precinct not connected to Point Cook traffic woes

Point Cook residents are using this announcement to vent their traffic woes. I sympathize with them but they choose to live there. It’s like building a house next to an abattoir and then complaining about the smell.

The East Werribee precinct may be the greatest project that has ever come to the city. It is a long way from Point Cook, especially Point Cook Road, and the traffic generated by this precinct will not add to their woes. Point Cook traffic is an unending story.

The town is on the wrong side of the highway and it may take years to find a solution.

Anyway, the precinct is proposed to be in Werribee and it has nothing to do with Point Cook. Do not use this announcement as an excuse to tell us your problems. So if Point Cook residents have nothing better to say, please butt out.

Re: Cap rates for urban growth boundary

Your letterWe pay rates according to the worth of our properties. The values of the 300 properties in Tarneit and Mt.Cottrell have increased many fold because of changes in urban boundary, and when they do sell it will be like winning tatslotto. If the council cap their rates they will effectively get a rate cut and I like to have a rate cut for my property too. Therefore, they should be rated like any other property in Wyndham according to their values. Whinging because of their windfall? Cr Gupta should not have put up such a ridiculous proposition.
