Winners are grinners as groups cash in

IT’S not every day developers give back to the community, but Cedar Woods have done just that.

The developer has allocated $20,000 to 24 community groups within the Wyndham and Hobsons Bay areas as part of its 2012 Williams Landing Neighbourhood Grants Scheme.

Since the scheme began in 2009, Cedar Woods has donated $80,000 to more than 70 local community groups and organisations.

Each year, the judging panel is faced with the challenging decision as to which community groups will receive the money, with a plenty of worthy applicants to choose from.

Long-standing grants committee member and Point Cook Community Bank branch manager, Dora Pyke, spoke of the significance of the scheme.

“The Williams Landing Neighbourhood Grants contributes back to the local community, helping organisations and volunteers continue their amazing work. I was honoured to be a part of it,” Ms Pyke said.

Cedar Woods Properties state manager Nathan Blackburne commended this year’s winners.

“We’re all inspired and appreciative of the tireless work undertaken by not-for-profit organisations within the wider Williams Landing community.

“Cedar Woods recognises the vital role that community groups play in the creation of close-knit societies.

“There are a diverse range of community groups established in the Wyndham and Hobsons Bay areas that require funding to continue providing services to residents of Williams Landing and surrounds,” Mr Blackburne said.

He said it was the community spirit and efforts of those organisations that made Williams Landing a sought after address and one that would continue to grow from their support.

Recipients of the 2012 grant include sporting clubs, primary schools and various local societies and foundations.
