Sneydes Road freeway access ‘first’

RESIDENTS have called on the state government to ensure freeway access at Sneydes Road is built before any more houses in Werribee and Point Cook.

As reported by the Weekly, the state government has announced plans to build a diamond interchange at Sneydes Road as part of the creation of new suburbs at Werribee east and Point Cook west.

The new suburbs will be developed over the next 20-30 years and could become home to 23,000 residents.

Point Cook Action Group president Nick Michaelides said residents were concerned the interchange was dependent on land sales.

“We need the diamond interchange ASAP, not in the future.

“I am all for expansion but we need some infrastructure built before expansion takes place.”

Point Cook resident Tony Hooper said while the development would bring more jobs to Wyndham and reduce the number of people leaving the municipality for work, more infrastructure was needed to ensure the city could cope.

Mr Michaelides called on the government to duplicate Point Cook Road.

“We need a direct ramp onto the freeway from Point Cook Road.

“At the moment it is a shambles.”

Planning Minister Matthew Guy said the full Sneydes Road interchange was being designed, with construction “due to commence next year”.
