WDCA: Falcons claw back victory from bolting Colts

WYNDHAMVALE consolidated its place in the Williamstown and District Cricket Association A1 turf top four with a hard-fought two-wicket win over third-ranked Williamstown Colts at Greenwich Reserve on Saturday.

The Falcons did well to restrict the Colts to 175 on the back of a blistering seven-wicket haul from young speedster Jake Styles, but it would still prove to be a tricky total to chase down.

They managed to get the job done, with the help of the tail end.

Things were looking grim for the Falcons at 4-39, but Adam Moscatiello saved the day with a game-turning 67 not out, pointing the way for the tail where contributions came from Liam McLaughlin (22), Adam Villani (16) and Styles (15no).

The Falcons are back on the road for a clash with cellar-dweller Gellibrand at Digman Reserve in a two-day game starting on Saturday.

In B1 turf, Bellbridge is sitting pretty in the top two after a comfortable four-wicket win over Williamstown Imperials away at Fearon Reserve.

Bellbridge’s Adam Townsing (4-26) and Mark Croswell (3-14) did the damage with the ball to rout the hosts for 88 in 32 overs. In C-composite, Tarneit showed it will be a genuine premiership contender with a 70-run hammering of ladder-leader Western All Stars in the derby at Arndell Park.

The highlight was a hat-trick to the Titans’ Kingston Alfred, who bowled one over and finished with 4-0.
