WERRIBEE Open Range Zoo is bursting with pride at the birth of baby zebra Melako, who has been sticking close to her mother Shani.
The foal, born on November 21, is the latest addition to the zoo’s 18-strong herd. Keepers named him after a community conservancy in northern Kenya, which Zoos Victoria supports via the Beads for Wildlife program.
It helps the women of Melako by selling their beadwork at retail outlets and online.
