SOME of Wyndham’s most creative residents will throw open the doors to their studios this weekend.
Artists including Anindita Banerjee, Merryn Trevethan and Ivana Pinaffo (pictured) will welcome visitors as part of the ‘Open Studios in the West’ event.
Ms Pinaffo – who has a studio in Hogans Road, Hoppers Crossing – says she’s opening her studio to raise the profile of local artists.
‘‘Many people don’t realise there are artists working here in Wyndham.
‘‘I hope that taking part in this event will let people know that I am here and promote the work that I do. I think it is important that we support local talent and show off the skills we have here.’’
Ms Banerjee will showcase paintings and hold workshops alongside dance classes at First Steps and Stepnout Performing Arts in Werribee, while the art gallery will host a talk and picnic with Ms Trevethan.
Werribee Community Shed will also open its doors to show people the work being done by members.
Mayor Heather Marcus says the event will allow art-lovers and budding artists to see how great works are created.
“Open Studios is an opportunity to meet artists and get behind the scenes – see where they work, watch demonstrations, participate in workshops, buy artworks and listen to artist talks. It allows the public an insight into artist’s creative process and gives other artists ideas for their own practice.”
