Some of Wyndham’s best young talent will get an experience money can’t buy when a Wyndham’s men’s basketball team takes on the Indonesian national team.
The Indonesian men’s team is touring Australia throughout the next few weeks and facing a number of National Basketball League 1 clubs in preparation for the 2022 FIBA Asia Cup.
A match against a Wyndham’s men’s Big V championship side is also part of the tour.
Wyndham’s player and coach development manager Gerard Hiller said this was massive for the association.
“It’s the first major event here since COVID started,” he said. “It is pretty cool for huge events to be back on.
“An email got sent out about it and we replied back saying we would love to be part of it. They felt that it was the right fit.”
The Wyndham team will have predominantly championship men players, but they will look to give locals from their youth league men’s program a chance to play..
Hiller said they wanted to give as many locals an opportunity to be part of this, with plenty of interest to be involved from the playing group.
“We want to have some star players out there and some local players to get the chance in the spotlight,” he said.
“It’s a chance to be involved in something big, right here in Wyndham.”
Hiller said the Indonesian team was yet to be announced, but expected it to be near full strength.
With no Big V and NBL1 matches this weekend due to the Queen’s Birthday long weekend, Hiller was hoping to see a big crowd at Eagle Stadium.
“It’s one of the only games for the weekend,” he said. “We want to get as many people down to watch, especially the young kids so they can check out the stars and have something to aspire to.”
There will be 3 x 3 games held at half time involving local kids.
All the games will be streamed live and free on NBL1.com.au and the NBL1 app.
The game starts at 6.30pm on Saturday night at Eagle Stadium.
