Wyndham bounced back from a tough week off court to claim the scalp of the Sunbury Jets in the Big V men’s championship division.
The second in the double header between the club’s championship sides, the Wyndham men were able to come away with a strong win.
Scores were level at quarter time before Wyndham went on a run in the second quarter to up a 17 point lead at half time.
The Jets were able to eat into the margin slightly in the third quarter to reduce the gap to 10 heading into the final quarter.
Wyndham was able to respond to finishing strongly to win, 114-197.
Coach Stuart McMurray said it was an incredible team effort from start to finish saying they didn’t fall into the trap of playing Sunbury’s style of walk up basketball
“All the guys stayed together after a tough week in the locker room and took care of business on the road.”
Jalen Rosemond had 21 points, 14 rebounds and four assists, while Junior Garbrah had 27 points.
May Mayoum also had a good night, scoring 25 points.
In the women’s match, the Jets were too strong for Wyndham, winning 81-59.
Coach Jason Bryant said it was a mixed game.
“Giving Sunbury a nine point lead in the first quarter the team levelled out and played a competitive second and third quarter.
“A competitive second and third quarter kept us in touch within 11 points at three quarter time. Unfortunately Sunbury overpowered us in the fourth quarter to stretch the game out and get a comfortable win.”
Nyider Riak scored 12 points and had eight rebounds and four steals.
Bryant said there were strong performances by Riak and Alana Anthony at both ends of the floor supporting Briana Bailey and Birgit Snorradottir who kept them in touch with the game.
