Brianna Bailey and Ayan Ali were recognised for their teamwork, defense, impact on the game, sportsmanship and all-round individual on court performance in the Big V on the weekend.
Wyndham celebrated its pink round on the weekend, with their yellow and blue jerseys becoming pink for the day.
Bailey won the Mel Logan Medal is in honour of Mel Logan (dec) who was the WBA executive secretary, secretary of the Wyndham TOC, and a long-time score table official on Big V games at Wyndham, for many years.
It was a tough day on Sunday for Wyndham in the championship women’s division, losing to the Bulleen Boomers, 116-68.
Bailey finished with 24 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals.
In the youth league women, Ali was awarded the Abel-Just Medal is in honour of WBA life members David Abel and David Just who both contributed many years to the female program basketball program at Wyndham.
Abel coached many years in the female junior representative and junior domestic programs. Just was a longtime executive committee member, as well as a statistician for the Big V program for more than 10 years.
The youth league women were able to get the win against the Ballarat Miners, 72-69.
Ali had 20 points, 11 rebounds, six assists and four steals.
Coach Matt Stephens said they had to work hard to get the win.
“We started the game well taking an early lead into the first break,” he said. “Unfortunately we let Ballarat slowly get back into the game and needed to battle all game. Coming away with the win was great and a real team effort with a standout performance from Ayan Ali who had a very impressive double double.”
Elsewhere, the Wyndham championship men split their two matches.
On Saturday night they lost to the Bellarine Storm, 99-95.
On Sunday, Wyndham beat the Shepparton Gators, 129-92. Mayoum Mayoum had 43 points, six rebounds and four assists.
Coach Stuart McMurray said the performance of Mayoum was one of the greatest individual performances he had seen.
