The Werribee Giants Baseball Club women’s team is looking to field a side in Victorian Summer League Competition for the 2021-22 summer season.
Club secretary Jessica Curnow said that players of 13 and above, of all skill levels, were welcome to join the team.
“As soon as current restrictions ease and we have approval from the council we will start training,” she said.
“We have always been an inclusive club and have been keen to maintain a women’s program.
“Now that we have a few of our junior players getting to an age where they are eligible it gives them more opportunity to develop as well.
“There has also been a noticeable increase in women’s participation in sports across the country recently so we want to give women the chance to participate in a unique team sport.”
Ms Curnow said that games would be played on Saturdays, against teams from across the west.
The Giants’ women’s coach, Jacob Sigismondi, said multiple women have expressed interest in joining the team.
“We had several successful teams in the past and in more recent years we have had a joint team with Footscray in the third division in the 2019-2020 season that made it all the way to the finals,” he said.
“Our short-term goal is to have enough for at least a team but we want to encourage as many women as we can to join us so that we can offer multiple teams for different skill levels.”
Team training will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6pm.
