Wins for Point Cook, Sanctuary Lakes

Point Cook and Sanctuary Lakes started their Victorian Turf Cricket Association T20 campaign with wins last week.

Matches across a number of pools were played on Tuesday night, as the sides turned their attention to the shorter format. Teams play in a round robin competition in pools of three before a knock out stages of the competition.

Point Cook had a good start to its T20 campaign with victory against the Williamstown Colts in the Ponsford group on Tuesday night.

Point Cook was bowled out for 131 in the final over with Jaskaranvir Sohi the star with 79 off 61 balls.

Aakash Katarey and Mohammad Mateen took three wickets each for the Colts.

The Colts got off to a solid start putting on 30 for the first partnership and were sitting at 4-106.

Four late wickets ended their hopes, restricted to 8-120.

Ajay Bhandary top scored with 66 at the top of the order. Kade Clowes took four wickets for Point Cook.

Wyndhamvale had a bye in the first round.

On Wednesday night, Sanctuary Lakes started its campaign with a win against Williamstown Congs in the Hughes group.

The Sharks won the toss and elected to bat, 7-148.

Asim Mehmood top scored with 64. Manish Chaudhary took two wickets for the Congs.

The Congs were in trouble early at 2-6 and quickly tumbled to be all out for 59.

Wade Kirkwood and Rahul Patel took two wickets each.

Williamtown Imperials is the other team in that pool, and had a bye in the opening round.

Sunshine United suffered a first up loss to Footscray United in the Taylor group.

The Bulldogs, a division 2 side, made 7-134 from their overs as Munas Mohamed top scored with 34.

The Tigers, who play in two divisions higher, shared the wickets around.

The Tigers were in trouble at 2-1, before slipping to 4-37.

There was little resistance from the Tigers’ tail as they were bowled out for 90.

James Porto was the standout with the bat, making 32.

Bulldogs skipper Shafraz Mohamed took three wickets.

Other winners on the first week of play included Haig Fawkner, Sunbury, Sunshine, Sydenham Hillside and Fawkner.
