Football

Werribee Tigers let a massive lead slip in a 13-point loss to Essendon at Avalon Airport Oval on Saturday.

The Tigers led by 33 points at half-time, that margin swelling further in the third quarter, but the Bombers came home with a wet sail to heap more misery on the Tigers, who have not won a VFL match since May 15.

Werribee faces 12th placed Coburg in a must-win home game on Saturday at 2pm.

Basketball

Werribee Devils faded late to lose 83-62 to Camberwell in the Big V women’s division 1 at Eagle Stadium on Sunday.

The Devils went into the last quarter with hopes of snatching a victory, but the visitors put an end to that with a 25-10 final 10 minutes.

The Devils (2-11) will travel to Chelsea (7-6) this weekend.

TAC Cup

It was left to the lesser lights to power Western Jets to a crucial 33-point win over Oakleigh Chargers in the TAC Cup at Warrawee Park on Saturday.

There was hardly a weak link despite the Jets having to make do without star quartet Brodie Romensky, Brock McGregor, Oscar Junker and Daniel Venables, who were part of Vic Metro’s stunning comeback win over South Australia in the under-18 national championships.
