The Werribee Giants will not participate in senior women’s baseball this summer.
The Giants will be left with a major hole in the club’s set-up after failing to gain the numbers needed to fill a top women’s side.
Werribee has put the team in recess for this season.
The Giants provided a waiver for their players to link up with fellow western suburbs club Footscray.
Giants president Ben Bavdek said the club intends to get the women’s team back up and running as soon as possible.
“The women’s team is definitely a long-term goal,” he said.
“We want to have women’s teams in summer and winter competitions.
“We’ve got a lot of kids in the 14 or 15 year age group who are not old enough for seniors just yet.”
