Werribee Districts hold on for third place and double chance

Werribee Districts have claimed third spot and a WRFL division 1 finals double chance by the skin of their teeth.

The Tigers finished a mere 3.95 per cent ahead of Altona to set up a qualifying final showdown with Hoppers Crossing at Avalon Airport Oval on Saturday.

Both sides enter the finals with sketchy form. The inconsistent Tigers succumbed by 41 points to Spotswood in the last round, while Hoppers Crossing lost its game against Werribee Districts prior to a bye. Form will go out the window on Saturday when the sides bid to get their finals campaign under way on a positive note.

The other Wyndham clubs in action in week one of finals are Glen Orden, Tarneit and Sanctuary Lakes.

Glen Orden had a confidence-boosting 101-point win over Albanvale at Robert Bruce Reserve but will go into its cut-throat division 2 semi-final against Caroline Springs as underdogs.

It will also be do-or-die when Tarneit and Sanctuary Lakes meet in a division 3 semi at Wootten Road Reserve on Sunday. With the benefit of home ground advantage, Tarneit will go into the game as warm favourites.
