The smiles have returned for Werribee in Bowls Victoria division 1.
A comfortable 98-82 win over Brunswick was just the tonic needed for a bubbly mood at Chirnside Park on Saturday evening.
The key to victory for the Bees was a fast start from the Peter Yassar rink, which went on a stunning 21-2 run before finishing 34-17.
Rob Patton’s rink was also victorious for the Bees, running out a 28-15 victor.
The big margins of the Bees’ winning rinks was eno to cover for the losing rinks of Rob Smith (27-22) and Ian Milledge (23-14).
Werribee’s first win since the middle of October brought an end to a four-game losing streak.
The Bees have moved up to eighth on the ladder and within 22 points of fourth.
Can they make it two wins in a row when they face second-placed Sunbury away on Saturday?
Hoppers had a day to forget in division 2, upset 100-55 by Port Melbourne away.
Hoppers skip Rob Waugh lamented his team’s inability to get to grips with the surface at Port Melbourne.
“We took too long to adapt to Port’s new Tiger Turf green,” he said. “By the time we did, it was to late.”
All four rinks finished down for Hoppers, which lost further ground on the top four.
Hoppers will be hoping to eat into the 22-point gap between itself and fourth when it hosts high-flying Yarraville-Footscray on Saturday.
